God Bless Social Media

I probably won’t say that all the time. As much as I like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, blogging and all of it, I often worry about what it is doing to community. I don’t like to talk on the phone and would much rather email or online chat with friends. Nothing beats being with them physically, but still, I worry.

However, so many wonderful things happen using social media. Like finding new music.

I’ve been on Twitter for well over a year now. I cannot remember when I started, but I have over 6,000 tweets. That’s insane. I have two twitters, actually. The official author one ec_newman and another that is private and where I follow mostly hockey/Flyers related people. It’s one of the best ways I get my hockey updates. I also follow several hockey players on there and though most of them have never responded to me, I enjoy the small look into their lives. One player, former Flyer, now on the Toronto Maple Leafs, often posts music that he’s listening to. Quite a few do, but this one, Joffrey Lupul (@JLupul) has really good taste. He introduced me to Mumford & Sons however long ago and I am forever grateful as I love their music and live show. So when he posted this:

Joffrey Lupul ‏ @JLupul Check out The Year of Hibernation by Youth Lagoon. One of my favorite records in a while..

I quickly saved it to memory and went searching for it on Spotify. And I’ve been listening to it. Over and over. It’s awesome. I haven’t decided what my favorite song is, but here’s the whole album.  I hope you enjoy it too. It’s always fun to find new, good music.

So, thanks, Joffrey Lupul, for your good hockey and your good music tastes.
